A Call to Joyful Praise

1Sing for joy in Yahweh, you righteous ones; praise is fitting for the upright.

2Give thanks to Yahweh with the lyre; make music to him on the ten-stringed harp.

3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy.

4For the word of Yahweh is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.

5He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the loyal love of Yahweh.

6By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.

7He gathers the waters of the sea like a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.

8Let all the earth fear Yahweh; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9For he himself spoke, and it came to be; he himself commanded, and it stood firm.

10Yahweh frustrates the counsel of the nations; he thwarts the plans of the peoples.

11The counsel of Yahweh stands forever, the plans of his heart to generation after generation.

12Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen as his inheritance.

13From heaven Yahweh looks down; he sees all the sons of mankind.

14From the place of his dwelling he gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth—

15the one who fashions the hearts of them all alike, who discerns all their deeds.

16No king is saved by a great army; a warrior is not delivered by great strength.

17The horse is a false hope for deliverance, and by its great might it cannot save.

18Behold, the eye of Yahweh is on those who fear him, on those who wait for his loyal love,

19to deliver their life from death and to keep them alive in famine.

20Our life waits for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield.

21For in him our heart rejoices, for in his holy name we have trusted.

22Let your loyal love, Yahweh, be upon us, according as we have waited for you.
