1The king’s heart is channels of water in the hand of Yahweh; he turns it wherever he wishes.
2Every way of a man is upright in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.
3To do righteousness and justice is more chosen by Yahweh than sacrifice.
4Haughty eyes and a proud heart—the lamp of the wicked—are sin.
5The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit, but everyone who is hasty surely comes to want.
6The gaining of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor, seekers of death.
7The violence of the wicked will drag them away, because they refuse to do justice.
8The way of a guilty man is crooked, but the pure—his conduct is upright.
9Better to dwell on a corner of the roof than in a shared house with a contentious wife.
10The soul of the wicked craves evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes.
11When a scoffer is punished, the simple grows wise; and when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.
12The Righteous One observes the house of the wicked, casting the wicked down to ruin.
13Whoever shuts his ear to the cry of the poor—he too will call out and not be answered.
14A gift in secret subdues anger, and a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.
15Doing justice is a joy to the righteous, but a terror to the workers of iniquity.
16A man who wanders from the way of insight will rest in the assembly of the shades.
17A man of want is one who loves pleasure; whoever loves wine and oil will not grow rich.
18The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous in the place of the upright.
19Better to dwell in a desert land than with a contentious and vexatious wife.
20Desirable treasure and oil are in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man swallows it up.
21Whoever pursues righteousness and loyal love will find life, righteousness, and honor.
22A wise man scales a city of warriors and brings down the strength in which it trusted.
23Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue guards his life from troubles.
24“Proud, arrogant—Scoffer” is his name; he acts in the overflow of insolence.
25The craving of the sluggard will kill him, for his hands refuse to work.
26All day long he craves and craves, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.
27The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with wicked intent!
28A lying witness will perish, but a man who listens will speak forever.
29A wicked man puts on a bold face, but the upright—he establishes his ways.
30There is no wisdom, no understanding, and no counsel against Yahweh.
31A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to Yahweh.
