Deuteronomy 23

The AIT Bible

Exclusion from the Assembly

No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male member is cut off shall enter the assembly of Yahweh.

No one of illegitimate birth shall enter the assembly of Yahweh; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of Yahweh.

No Ammonite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of Yahweh; even to the tenth generation none of theirs shall ever enter the assembly of Yahweh, forever.

because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because he hired against you Balaam son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-naharaim to curse you.

But Yahweh your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, and Yahweh your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because Yahweh your God loved you.

You shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days, forever.

You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, for you were a sojourner in his land.

Children who are born to them in the third generation may enter the assembly of Yahweh.

Purity of the Military Camp

When you go out as a camp against your enemies, then you shall guard yourself from every evil thing.

If there is among you a man who is not clean because of a nocturnal emission, then he shall go outside the camp; he shall not come inside the camp.

And it shall be, toward evening, that he shall wash with water; and when the sun goes down he may come inside the camp.

And you shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out there, outside.

And you shall have a peg among your equipment, and it shall be, when you sit down outside, that you shall dig with it and turn and cover up your excrement.

For Yahweh your God walks about in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you; therefore your camp shall be holy, so that he does not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you.

Miscellaneous Community Laws

You shall not hand over a slave to his master who has escaped to you from his master.

He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place he chooses within one of your gates, wherever it is good for him; you shall not oppress him.

There shall be no cult prostitute among the daughters of Israel, and there shall be no cult prostitute among the sons of Israel.

You shall not bring the hire of a prostitute or the wages of a dog into the house of Yahweh your God for any vow, for both of them are an abomination to Yahweh your God.

You shall not charge your brother interest — interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent at interest.

You may charge the foreigner interest, but your brother you shall not charge interest, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the undertaking of your hand in the land that you are entering to possess.

When you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you shall not delay to fulfill it, for Yahweh your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin in you.

But if you refrain from vowing, it shall not be sin in you.

What has gone out from your lips you shall keep and do, just as you have vowed to Yahweh your God as a freewill offering, which you have promised with your mouth.

When you come into your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat grapes to your fill, as much as you desire, but you shall not put any into your vessel.

When you come into your neighbor’s standing grain, you may pluck ears with your hand, but you shall not swing a sickle over your neighbor’s standing grain.
