Leviticus 19

The AIT Bible

You Shall Be Holy

And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them: You shall be holy, for I, Yahweh your God, am holy.

Each of you shall fear his mother and his father, and you shall keep my sabbaths. I am Yahweh your God.

Do not turn to the idols, and do not make for yourselves cast gods. I am Yahweh your God.

When you sacrifice a sacrifice of peace offerings to Yahweh, you shall sacrifice it so that you may be accepted.

It shall be eaten on the day of your sacrifice and on the next day, but what remains until the third day shall be burned in the fire.

If it is indeed eaten on the third day, it is foul; it will not be accepted.

And the one who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned what is holy to Yahweh; that person shall be cut off from his people.

Laws of Justice and Mercy

When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not finish reaping the edge of your field, and you shall not gather the gleanings of your harvest.

You shall not strip your vineyard bare, and you shall not gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner. I am Yahweh your God.

You shall not steal, and you shall not deal deceptively, and you shall not lie to one another.

And you shall not swear falsely by my name, so profaning the name of your God. I am Yahweh.

You shall not oppress your neighbor, and you shall not rob him. The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you overnight until morning.

You shall not curse a deaf person, and before a blind person you shall not put a stumbling block; but you shall fear your God. I am Yahweh.

You shall not do injustice in judgment; you shall not favor the face of the poor, and you shall not defer to the face of the great. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.

You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people; you shall not stand against the blood of your neighbor. I am Yahweh.

You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you shall surely reprove your neighbor, and you shall not bear sin because of him.

You shall not take vengeance, and you shall not bear a grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am Yahweh.

Various Statutes of Holiness

You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your livestock breed with a different kind; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; and a garment of two kinds of material mixed together shall not come upon you.

If a man lies with a woman by emission of seed, and she is a slave woman assigned to another man but not at all redeemed nor given her freedom, there shall be an inquiry; they shall not be put to death, because she was not freed.

And he shall bring his guilt offering to Yahweh, to the entrance of the tent of meeting—a ram as a guilt offering.

And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before Yahweh for his sin that he committed, and he shall be forgiven for his sin that he committed.

When you come into the land and plant any tree for food, you shall regard its fruit as forbidden; for three years it shall be forbidden to you—it shall not be eaten.

And in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to Yahweh.

And in the fifth year you shall eat its fruit, so that it may increase its yield for you. I am Yahweh your God.

You shall not eat anything with the blood. You shall not practice divination, and you shall not practice soothsaying.

You shall not round off the edge of your head, and you shall not destroy the edge of your beard.

You shall not make a gash in your flesh for the dead, and you shall not put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am Yahweh.

Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land fall into prostitution and the land be filled with depravity.

You shall keep my sabbaths and revere my sanctuary. I am Yahweh.

Do not turn to the mediums or to the spiritists; do not seek them out, to be defiled by them. I am Yahweh your God.

Before gray hair you shall rise, and you shall honor the presence of an elder, and you shall fear your God. I am Yahweh.

And when a sojourner sojourns with you in your land, you shall not oppress him.

The sojourner who sojourns with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.

You shall not do injustice in judgment, in measure, in weight, or in quantity.

Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin you shall have. I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

So you shall keep all my statutes and all my judgments, and do them. I am Yahweh.
