1When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found in her some indecent matter, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house,
2and she departs from his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife,
3and the latter man hates her and writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, or if the latter man who took her to be his wife dies,
4her first husband who sent her away may not again take her to be his wife after she has been defiled, for that would be an abomination before Yahweh, and you shall not bring sin upon the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance.
5When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out with the army, nor shall any duty be imposed on him; he shall be free at home for one year, and he shall gladden his wife whom he has taken.
6No one shall take a mill or an upper millstone as a pledge, for he would be taking a life in pledge.
7If a man is found kidnapping a person from his brothers among the sons of Israel, and he treats him as a slave and sells him, then that thief shall die, and you shall purge the evil from your midst.
8Take care regarding an outbreak of skin disease, to observe diligently and to do according to all that the Levitical priests instruct you; as I have commanded them, you shall be careful to do.
9Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt.
10When you make your neighbor a loan of any kind, you shall not enter his house to take his pledge.
11You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you are making the loan shall bring the pledge out to you outside.
12And if the man is poor, you shall not lie down in his pledge.
13You shall surely return the pledge to him at sunset, so that he may lie down in his garment and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before Yahweh your God.
14You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether from among your brothers or from your sojourners who are in your land, within your gates.
15On his day you shall give him his wages, and the sun shall not set upon it, for he is poor and sets his heart upon it; otherwise he will cry out against you to Yahweh, and it will be sin in you.
16Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; each shall be put to death for his own sin.
17You shall not pervert the justice due to the sojourner or the fatherless, nor take a widow’s garment as a pledge.
18But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
19When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to take it; it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
20When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again after you; it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
21When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.
22And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
