1When there is a dispute between men, and they come to the court, and they judge them, then they shall acquit the righteous and condemn the wicked.
2And it shall be, if the wicked man deserves to be beaten, then the judge shall make him lie down and have him beaten in his presence, with a number of blows in proportion to his wickedness.
3He may give him forty lashes, no more; lest, if he continues to strike him beyond these with many blows, then your brother would be degraded in your eyes.
4You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.
5When brothers dwell together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not become the wife of a stranger outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her.
6And it shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall be established under the name of the dead brother, so that his name is not blotted out from Israel.
7But if the man does not wish to take his brother’s widow, then his brother’s widow shall go up to the gate, to the elders, and say, ‘My husband’s brother refuses to raise up a name for his brother in Israel; he is unwilling to perform the duty of a brother-in-law to me.’
8Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak to him. And if he stands firm and says, ‘I do not wish to take her,’
9then his brother’s widow shall approach him in the sight of the elders and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, ‘Thus shall be done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.’
10And his name shall be called in Israel, ‘The house of the one whose sandal was removed.’
11When men fight together, a man and his brother, and the wife of the one approaches to rescue her husband from the hand of the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and seizes him by his genitals,
12then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall not spare her.
13You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weight, a large and a small.
14You shall not have in your house two kinds of measure, a large and a small.
15You shall have a full and honest weight; you shall have a full and honest measure, so that your days may be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.
16For everyone who does these things is an abomination to Yahweh your God, everyone who acts unjustly.
17Remember what Amalek did to you on the way, when you came out of Egypt,
18how he met you on the way and cut down at your rear all the stragglers behind you, while you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God.
19And it shall be, when Yahweh your God gives you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, that you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under the heavens. You shall not forget.
