1Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah.
2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
3Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were the Asshurim, the Letushim, and the Leummim.
4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.
5Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.
6But to the sons of the concubines whom Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still alive he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward, to the land of the east.
7These are the days of the years of Abraham’s life that he lived: a hundred years and seventy years and five years.
8Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years, and he was gathered to his people.
9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, which faces Mamre,
10the field that Abraham had bought from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, with Sarah his wife.
11After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son, and Isaac settled at Beer-lahai-roi.
12These are the generations of Ishmael son of Abraham, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.
13These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: Nebaioth, Ishmael’s firstborn; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their settlements and by their encampments: twelve chieftains according to their tribes.
17These are the years of Ishmael’s life: a hundred years and thirty years and seven years. Then he breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people.
18They dwelt from Havilah to Shur, which is before Egypt as you go toward Asshur. He settled over against all his brothers.
19These are the generations of Isaac son of Abraham: Abraham fathered Isaac.
20Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.
21Isaac entreated Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she was barren; and Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is so, why then am I this way?” So she went to inquire of Yahweh.
23And Yahweh said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from your inner parts will be divided; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”
24When her days to give birth were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
25The first came out reddish, all of him like a hairy cloak; and they called his name Esau.
26After that his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he called his name Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.
27The boys grew up, and Esau became a man skilled in hunting, a man of the field, while Jacob was a blameless man, dwelling in tents.
28Isaac loved Esau, because game was in his mouth, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29Once Jacob was cooking a stew when Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted.
30Esau said to Jacob, “Let me gulp down some of that red stuff—that red stuff—for I am exhausted.” That is why his name was called Edom.
31But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright today.”
32Esau said, “Look, I am about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?”
33Jacob said, “Swear to me today.” So he swore to him, and he sold his birthright to Jacob.
34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and a stew of lentils, and he ate and drank, then got up and went away. Thus Esau despised the birthright.
