1Then Yahweh spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying:
2“Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them: When you come into the land that I am giving you, the land shall keep a Sabbath to Yahweh.
3Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its produce.
4But in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land, a Sabbath to Yahweh; you shall not sow your field, and you shall not prune your vineyard.
5You shall not reap the aftergrowth of your harvest, and you shall not gather the grapes of your untrimmed vines; it shall be a year of complete rest for the land.
6The Sabbath of the land shall be food for you—for yourself, for your male servant and your female servant, and for your hired worker and your resident foreigner who sojourn with you,
7and for your livestock and for the wild animals that are in your land; all its yield shall be for food.
8You shall count off for yourself seven Sabbaths of years, seven years seven times, so that the time of the seven Sabbaths of years amounts to forty-nine years for you.
9Then you shall sound the ram’s horn of loud blast in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month; on the Day of Atonement you shall sound the horn throughout all your land.
10You shall consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, and each of you shall return to his own holding, and each of you shall return to his own clan.
11A jubilee it shall be for you, the fiftieth year. You shall not sow, and you shall not reap its aftergrowth, and you shall not gather from its untrimmed vines.
12For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy to you. You may eat the produce directly from the field.
13In this year of jubilee each of you shall return to his own holding.
14When you sell anything to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor’s hand, you shall not wrong one another.
15According to the number of years after the jubilee you shall buy from your neighbor, and according to the number of years of crops he shall sell to you.
16According to the greater number of years you shall increase its price, and according to the fewer number of years you shall reduce its price, for it is a number of crops that he is selling to you.
17You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God; for I am Yahweh your God.
18You shall do my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them, and you shall dwell in the land securely.
19The land will give its fruit, and you will eat your fill and dwell securely upon it.
20And if you say, ‘What shall we eat in the seventh year, since we may not sow or gather in our produce?’—
21then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it will produce a crop sufficient for three years.
22You shall sow in the eighth year and eat from the old crop; until the ninth year, until its crop comes in, you shall eat the old.
23The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is mine; for you are aliens and sojourners with me.
24And in all the land of your holding you shall grant redemption for the land.
25If your brother becomes poor and sells some of his holding, then his kinsman-redeemer who is nearest to him shall come and redeem what his brother has sold.
26And if a man has no redeemer, but his own hand reaches enough and he finds sufficient means for its redemption,
27then he shall calculate the years since its sale and refund the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and he shall return to his holding.
28But if his hand does not find enough to repay him, then what he sold shall remain in the hand of its buyer until the year of jubilee; and in the jubilee it shall be released, and he shall return to his holding.
29If a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then his right of redemption shall last until the end of the year of its sale; for a full year shall his right of redemption last.
30But if it is not redeemed before the completion of a full year for him, then the house that is in the walled city shall belong permanently to its buyer throughout his generations; it shall not be released in the jubilee.
31But the houses of the villages that have no wall around them shall be reckoned as the fields of the land; they shall have a right of redemption, and in the Jubilee they shall be released.
32As for the cities of the Levites, the houses in the cities of their holding, the Levites shall have a perpetual right of redemption.
33And whatever one redeems from the Levites — the sold house and city of his holding shall go out in the Jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites, that is their holding among the sons of Israel.
34But the open pastureland of their cities shall not be sold, for that is their perpetual holding.
35And if your brother becomes poor and his hand fails beside you, you shall support him; as a resident alien and a settler he shall live with you.
36Take no interest or increase from him, but fear your God, so that your brother may live beside you.
37You shall not give him your silver at interest, nor give your food for increase.
38I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, to be your God.
39And if your brother becomes poor beside you and is sold to you, you shall not make him serve as a slave serves.
40He shall be with you as a hired worker, as a settler; until the year of the Jubilee he shall serve with you.
41Then he shall be released from you, he and his sons with him, and he shall return to his clan and return to the holding of his fathers.
42For they are my servants, whom I brought out from the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as a slave is sold.
43You shall not rule over him with harshness, but you shall fear your God.
44As for your male and female slaves whom you may have — from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves.
45Moreover, from the sons of the settlers who reside among you, from them you may buy, and from their clans that are with you, whom they have begotten in your land; and they shall become your holding.
46You may bequeath them to your sons after you as an inheritance of holding forever; of them you may make slaves. But over your brothers, the sons of Israel—each over his brother—you shall not rule with harshness.
47And if the hand of a resident alien or settler beside you reaches prosperity, and your brother becomes poor beside him and is sold to the resident alien settler beside you, or to a member of the alien’s clan,
48after he has been sold he shall have a right of redemption; one of his brothers may redeem him.
49Either his uncle or his uncle’s son may redeem him, or one of his blood relatives from his clan may redeem him; or if his own hand reaches prosperity, he may redeem himself.
50Then he shall reckon with his buyer from the year he sold himself to him until the year of the Jubilee; and the price of his sale shall be according to the number of years — as the days of a hired worker he shall be with him.
51If many years still remain, in proportion to them he shall repay his redemption price out of the money he was bought for.
52And if few years remain until the year of the Jubilee, he shall reckon with him; in proportion to his years he shall repay his redemption price.
53As a worker hired year by year he shall be with him; he shall not rule over him with harshness in your sight.
54And if he is not redeemed by these means, then he shall be released in the year of the Jubilee, he and his sons with him.
55For to me the sons of Israel are servants; they are my servants, whom I brought out from the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.
