1Then King David said to all the assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man but for Yahweh God.
2With all my strength I have provided for the house of my God: gold for the gold, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood; onyx stones and settings, stones of antimony and colored stone, and every precious stone, and alabaster in abundance.
3Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver that I give to the house of my God, over and above all that I have provided for the holy house:
4three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings,
5the gold for the gold and the silver for the silver, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. So who is willing to consecrate himself today to Yahweh?”
6Then the leaders of the fathers’ houses, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials over the king’s work made freewill offerings.
7They gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8And whoever had precious stones with him gave them to the treasury of the house of Yahweh, into the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9Then the people rejoiced at their willing gifts, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to Yahweh; and King David also rejoiced with great joy.
10So David blessed Yahweh in the sight of all the assembly, and David said: “Blessed are you, Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.
11Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness and the might and the glory and the victory and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours, Yahweh, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.
12Both riches and honor come from before you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all.
13And now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name.
14But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and from your own hand we have given to you.
15For we are sojourners before you and resident aliens, as were all our fathers; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
16Yahweh our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it is yours.
17I know, my God, that you test the heart and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people who are present here offering willingly to you with joy.
18Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever as the disposition of the thoughts of the heart of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.
19And give to Solomon my son a whole heart to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace for which I have made provision.”
20Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless Yahweh your God.” And all the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and they bowed down and prostrated themselves before Yahweh and the king.
21They offered sacrifices to Yahweh, and on the next day they offered burnt offerings to Yahweh: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.
22And they ate and drank before Yahweh on that day with great joy. They made Solomon the son of David king a second time, and anointed him as ruler before Yahweh, and Zadok as priest.
23So Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king in place of David his father, and he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
24And all the officials and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, pledged their allegiance to Solomon the king.
25And Yahweh made Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had not been on any king before him over Israel.
26Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27The days that he reigned over Israel were forty years; in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three.
28He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.
29Now the acts of King David, from first to last, behold, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, and in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the visionary,
30together with all his reign and his might, and the times that passed over him and over Israel and over all the kingdoms of the lands.
