Leviticus 24

The AIT Bible

Oil for the Lampstand

1Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:

2Command the sons of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep a lamp burning continually.

3Outside the veil of the testimony, in the tent of meeting, Aaron shall arrange it from evening until morning before Yahweh continually; it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations.

4On the pure lampstand he shall arrange the lamps before Yahweh continually.

The Bread of the Presence

5You shall take fine flour and bake twelve loaves from it; two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each loaf.

6You shall set them in two rows, six to a row, on the pure table before Yahweh.

7And you shall put pure frankincense on the row, and it shall be a memorial portion for the bread, a fire offering to Yahweh.

8Every Sabbath day he shall arrange it before Yahweh continually, from the sons of Israel as a perpetual covenant.

9It shall belong to Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, for it is a most holy portion for him from the fire offerings of Yahweh, a perpetual due.

A Case of Blasphemy

10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian man, went out among the sons of Israel, and the son of the Israelite woman and an Israelite man fought together in the camp.

11And the son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed, so they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith, daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)

12They put him under guard until the decision from the mouth of Yahweh should be made clear to them.

13Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:

14Bring out the one who cursed, outside the camp, and let all who heard lay their hands on his head, and let the whole congregation stone him.

15And to the sons of Israel you shall speak, saying: Any man who curses his God shall bear his sin.

16And whoever blasphemes the name of Yahweh shall surely be put to death; the whole congregation shall surely stone him. Whether a foreigner or a native-born, when he blasphemes the Name he shall be put to death.

Laws of Retribution

17And if a man strikes down any human life, he shall surely be put to death.

18And whoever strikes down an animal’s life shall make it good, life for life.

19And if a man inflicts an injury on his neighbor, as he has done, so it shall be done to him:

20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As he has inflicted an injury on a person, so it shall be inflicted on him.

21Whoever strikes down an animal shall make it good, but whoever strikes down a human shall be put to death.

22You shall have one standard of judgment; it shall be for the foreigner as for the native-born, for I am Yahweh your God.

23So Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and they brought the one who had cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. And the sons of Israel did as Yahweh had commanded Moses.
