A Cry from the Brink of Death
Yahweh, God of my salvation, by day I cry out, in the night before you.
Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry.
For my soul is sated with troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.
I am reckoned with those who go down to the pit; I have become like a man without strength.
forsaken among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, and they are cut off from your hand.
You have put me in the lowest pit, in dark places, in the depths.
Your wrath lies heavy upon me, and with all your breakers you have afflicted me. Selah.
You have removed my acquaintances far from me; you have made me an abomination to them; I am shut in and cannot go out.
My eye grows dim from affliction. I call to you, Yahweh, every day; I spread out my palms to you.
Will you work wonders for the dead? Will the shades rise up to praise you? Selah.
Is your loyal love recounted in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon?
Are your wonders known in the darkness, and your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Why Do You Hide Your Face?
But I, to you, Yahweh, I cry for help, and in the morning my prayer comes before you.
Why, Yahweh, do you reject my life? Why do you hide your face from me?
Afflicted am I, and dying from my youth; I bear your terrors; I am in despair.
Your fierce anger has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me.
They surround me like water all day long; together they close in on me.
You have removed lover and friend far from me; my acquaintances are darkness.
