For the director. A psalm of David.
In you, Yahweh, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness deliver me.
Incline your ear to me; rescue me quickly. Be to me a rock of refuge, a fortified house, to save me.
For you are my crag and my stronghold; and for the sake of your name you will lead me and guide me.
You will bring me out of the net that they hid for me, for you are my stronghold.
Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, Yahweh, God of truth.
I hate those who cling to worthless idols, but as for me, I trust in Yahweh.
Let me rejoice and be glad in your loyal love, for you have seen my affliction; you have known the distresses of my life.
And you have not handed me over into the grasp of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place.
Be gracious to me, Yahweh, for I am in distress; my eye wastes away with grief, my throat and my belly.
For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength stumbles because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.
Because of all my foes I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and a dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.
I am forgotten, out of mind like the dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
For I hear the whispering of many—terror on every side!—as they conspire together against me, plotting to take my life.
But as for me, I trust in you, Yahweh; I say, ‘You are my God.’
My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my pursuers.
Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your loyal love.
Yahweh, let me not be put to shame, for I have called out to you. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them be silenced to Sheol.
Let lying lips be struck dumb, which speak insolently against the righteous with arrogance and contempt.
How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you have made for those who take refuge in you, before the sons of men!
You hide them in the shelter of your presence from the plots of men; you conceal them in a shelter from the strife of tongues.
Blessed be Yahweh, for he has made his loyal love wondrous to me in a besieged city.
As for me, I said in my alarm, ‘I am cut off from before your eyes.’ Yet you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried out to you.
Love Yahweh, all you his faithful ones! Yahweh preserves the faithful, but he repays abundantly the one who acts with arrogance.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for Yahweh.
