My Soul Refused to Be Comforted

1My voice to God — and I cry out; my voice to God, that he may give ear to me.

2In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; my hand at night was stretched out and did not grow numb; my soul refused to be comforted.

3I remember God, and I moan; I meditate, and my spirit grows faint. Selah.

4You held fast the eyelids of my eyes; I was troubled and could not speak.

5I considered the days of old, the years of long ago.

6I remember my song in the night; with my heart I meditate, and my spirit searches.

7Will the Lord reject forever, and never again show favor?

8Has his loyal love ceased forever? Has his word failed for generation after generation?

9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion? Selah.

10And I said, “This is my grief: the years of the right hand of the Most High.”

11I will call to mind the deeds of Yah; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.

12And I will meditate on all your work, and on your mighty deeds I will muse.

13God, your way is in holiness. What god is great like God?

14You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your strength among the peoples.

15With your arm you redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

16The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you, they writhed; indeed, the deeps trembled.

17The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth a voice; indeed, your arrows flew about.

18The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.

19In the sea was your way, and your paths in mighty waters, yet your footprints were not known.

20You led your people like a flock, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
