1And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:
2“Speak to the sons of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; before Baal-zephon, opposite it you shall encamp by the sea.
3For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, ‘They are wandering in confusion in the land; the wilderness has closed in on them.’
4And I will strengthen Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue after them; and I will gain glory over Pharaoh and over all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh.” And they did so.
5And it was told to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have sent Israel away from serving us?”
6So he harnessed his chariot and took his people with him.
7And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariotry of Egypt, with officers over all of them.
8And Yahweh strengthened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the sons of Israel; but the sons of Israel were going out with a high hand.
9And the Egyptians pursued after them and overtook them encamped by the sea—all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army—beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
10As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they were terrified; and the sons of Israel cried out to Yahweh.
11And they said to Moses, “Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you took us to die in the wilderness? What is this you have done to us, bringing us out of Egypt?
12Is this not the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve Egypt’? For it would be better for us to serve Egypt than to die in the wilderness.”
13And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand firm and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you will never see again forever.
14Yahweh will fight for you, and you—you shall keep silent.”
15And Yahweh said to Moses, “Why do you cry out to me? Speak to the sons of Israel, that they set out.
16And you—lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the sons of Israel may go through the midst of the sea on dry ground.
17And I—behold, I am strengthening the heart of the Egyptians, and they will go in after them; and I will gain glory over Pharaoh and over all his army, over his chariots and over his horsemen.
18And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh, when I have gained glory over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.”
19And the angel of God, who was going before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them.
20And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet it lit up the night; and the one did not draw near the other all night.
21And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strong east wind all night, and he made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.
22And the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were for them a wall on their right and on their left.
23And the Egyptians pursued and went in after them—all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen—into the midst of the sea.
24And it happened in the morning watch that Yahweh looked down upon the camp of the Egyptians from within the pillar of fire and cloud, and he threw the camp of the Egyptians into confusion.
25And he removed the wheel of their chariots so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, “Let me flee from before Israel, for Yahweh is fighting for them against Egypt!”
26And Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may return upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots and upon their horsemen.”
27And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned at daybreak to its normal flow, while the Egyptians were fleeing toward it; and Yahweh shook off the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.
28And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, the whole army of Pharaoh that had come after them into the sea; not one of them remained.
29But the sons of Israel walked on dry ground through the midst of the sea, and the waters were for them a wall on their right and on their left.
30So Yahweh saved Israel on that day from the hand of Egypt, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore of the sea.
31And Israel saw the great hand that Yahweh had exercised against Egypt, and the people feared Yahweh, and they believed in Yahweh and in Moses his servant.
