Fourth Vision: Joshua the High Priest

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Yahweh, and the Accuser standing at his right hand to accuse him.

And Yahweh said to the Accuser, “May Yahweh rebuke you, O Accuser! May Yahweh, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is this not a brand snatched from the fire?”

Now Joshua was clothed in filthy garments as he stood before the angel.

And he spoke up and said to those standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” Then he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you in festal robes.”

And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put the clean turban on his head and clothed him in garments, while the angel of Yahweh stood by.

Then the angel of Yahweh solemnly charged Joshua, saying,

“Thus says Yahweh of hosts: If you walk in my ways and if you keep my charge, then you will also govern my house and also keep my courts, and I will give you the right of access among these who are standing here.

Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you and your companions who sit before you — for they are men who are a sign — for behold, I am bringing my servant, the Branch.

For behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua — on one stone are seven eyes. Behold, I am about to engrave its inscription, declares Yahweh of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in a single day.

In that day, declares Yahweh of hosts, you will each invite his neighbor under his vine and under his fig tree.
