1So King Solomon was king over all Israel.
2And these were the officials he had: Azariah son of Zadok, the priest;
3Elihoreph and Ahijah, sons of Shisha, were secretaries; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
4and Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the army; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
5and Azariah son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabud son of Nathan was a priest and the king’s friend;
6and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram son of Abda was over the forced labor.
7And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, and they provided for the king and his household; each one had to provide for a month in the year.
8And these were their names: Ben-Hur, in the hill country of Ephraim;
9Ben-Deker, in Makaz and in Shaalbim and in Beth-shemesh and Elon-beth-hanan;
10Ben-Hesed, in Arubboth; his were Socoh and all the land of Hepher;
11Ben-Abinadab, all the district of Dor; Taphath the daughter of Solomon became his wife;
12Baana son of Ahilud, Taanach and Megiddo and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan below Jezreel, from Beth-shean as far as Abel-meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;
13Ben-Geber, in Ramoth-gilead; his were the villages of Jair son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; his was the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bars of bronze;
14Ahinadab son of Iddo, at Mahanaim;
15Ahimaaz, in Naphtali; he too took Basemath the daughter of Solomon as his wife;
16Baana son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth;
17Jehoshaphat son of Paruah, in Issachar;
18Shimei son of Ela, in Benjamin;
19Geber son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the land of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and there was one officer who was in the land.
20Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand that is by the sea in abundance, eating and drinking and rejoicing.
21Now Solomon was ruler over all the kingdoms from the River, the land of the Philistines, and as far as the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
22Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour and sixty kors of meal,
23ten fatted oxen, twenty pasture-fed oxen, and a hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelle, roebuck, and fattened fowl.
24For he held dominion over all the region west of the River, from Tiphsah to Gaza, over all the kings west of the River, and he had peace on all sides around him.
25So Judah and Israel dwelt in safety, each man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.
26Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariotry, and twelve thousand horsemen.
27Those officers provided for King Solomon and for all who came to King Solomon’s table, each in his month; they let nothing be lacking.
28The barley also and the straw for the horses and swift steeds they brought to the place where each would be, according to his duty.
29And God gave Solomon wisdom and very great understanding, and breadth of mind like the sand that is on the seashore.
30Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.
31He was wiser than any man—than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol—and his fame was in all the surrounding nations.
32He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered a thousand and five.
33He spoke about the trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the wall; and he spoke about the beasts, the birds, the creeping things, and the fish.
34People came from all the peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.
