1Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loyal love endures forever.
2Let the redeemed of Yahweh say so—those whom he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3and gathered from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea.
4They wandered in the wilderness, in a wasteland with no road; they found no city to dwell in.
5Hungry and also thirsty, their life fainted away within them.
6Then they cried out to Yahweh in their distress, and from their troubles he delivered them.
7He led them on a straight road, to go to a city to dwell in.
8Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the children of humankind,
9for he has satisfied the longing throat, and the hungry life he has filled with good.
10Those dwelling in darkness and deep shadow, prisoners in affliction and iron—
11because they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High.
12So he humbled their heart with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was none to help.
13Then they cried out to Yahweh in their distress, and from their troubles he saved them.
14He brought them out from darkness and deep shadow, and their bonds he tore apart.
15Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the children of humankind,
16for he shattered the doors of bronze, and cut through the bars of iron.
17Fools, because of their rebellious way and because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
18Their life loathed all food, and they drew near to the gates of death.
19Then they cried out to Yahweh in their distress, and from their troubles he saved them.
20He sent forth his word and healed them, and delivered them from their pits of destruction.
21Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the children of humankind,
22and let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and recount his works with a ringing cry.
23Those who go down to the sea in ships, doing business on the mighty waters—
24they have seen the works of Yahweh, and his wonders in the deep.
25He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, which lifted high its waves.
26They rose to the heavens, they went down to the depths; their life melted away in disaster.
27They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, and all their skill was swallowed up.
28Then they cried out to Yahweh in their distress, and out of their troubles he brought them.
29He stilled the storm to a whisper, and the waves grew quiet.
30Then they rejoiced because they grew calm, and he guided them to their desired harbor.
31Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and for his wondrous deeds to the children of humankind.
32Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the seat of the elders.
33He turns rivers into a wilderness, and springs of water into thirsty ground.
34a fruitful land into a salt-waste, because of the evil of those who dwell in it.
35He turns a wilderness into a pool of water, and a parched land into springs of water.
36And there he settles the hungry, and they establish a city to dwell in.
37They sow fields and plant vineyards, and they yield a fruitful harvest.
38And he blesses them, and they multiply greatly, and he does not let their cattle diminish.
39Then they are diminished and brought low through the oppression of trouble and sorrow.
40he pours contempt upon nobles and makes them wander in a trackless waste.
41But he lifts the needy on high out of affliction, and makes their families like a flock.
42The upright see it and rejoice, and all injustice shuts its mouth.
43Whoever is wise, let him observe these things, and let them consider the acts of loyal love of Yahweh.
