1In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down—on that very day the hand of Yahweh was upon me, and he brought me there.
2In visions of God he brought me to the land of Israel and set me down on a very high mountain, and on it, to the south, was what looked like the structure of a city.
3He brought me there, and behold, a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, with a cord of linen in his hand and a measuring reed; and he was standing in the gateway.
4The man spoke to me: ‘Son of man, look with your eyes and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I am showing you, for you have been brought here in order that I might show it to you. Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.’
5And behold, a wall on the outside of the temple all around, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed of six cubits, each of a cubit and a handbreadth; and he measured the width of the structure: one reed; and the height: one reed.
6Then he went to the gate that faced east and went up its steps, and he measured the threshold of the gate: one reed in width; and the one threshold: one reed in width.
7And each guardroom was one reed long and one reed wide, and between the guardrooms was five cubits; and the threshold of the gate beside the vestibule of the gate, toward the temple, was one reed.
8Then he measured the vestibule of the gate toward the temple: one reed.
9Then he measured the vestibule of the gate: eight cubits; and its jambs: two cubits; and the vestibule of the gate was toward the temple.
10And the guardrooms of the gate toward the east were three on this side and three on that side; the three had one measurement, and the jambs had one measurement on this side and on that.
11Then he measured the width of the gate’s entrance: ten cubits; the length of the gate: thirteen cubits.
12And there was a barrier before the guardrooms, one cubit on this side and a barrier of one cubit on that side; and each guardroom was six cubits on this side and six cubits on that side.
13Then he measured the gate from the roof of one guardroom to the roof of the other: a width of twenty-five cubits, entrance opposite entrance.
14And he made the jambs sixty cubits; and by the jamb of the court was the gate all around, all around.
15And from the front of the entrance-gate to the front of the vestibule of the inner gate was fifty cubits.
16And there were closed windows to the guardrooms and to their jambs on the inside of the gate all around, and likewise for the porches; and there were windows all around on the inside; and on each jamb were palm-tree carvings.
17Then he brought me into the outer court, and behold, chambers and a pavement made for the court all around; thirty chambers faced the pavement.
18And the pavement ran along the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates; this was the lower pavement.
19Then he measured the width from the front of the lower gate to the front of the inner court, on the outside: one hundred cubits, on the east and on the north.
20And as for the gate of the outer court that faced north, he measured its length and its width.
21Its guardrooms were three on this side and three on that side, and its jambs and its porch were according to the measurement of the first gate: fifty cubits its length, and its width twenty-five cubits.
22And its windows and its porch and its palm carvings were according to the measurement of the gate that faced east; by seven steps they would go up to it, and its porch was in front of them.
23And there was a gate to the inner court opposite the gate on the north and on the east; and he measured from gate to gate: one hundred cubits.
24Then he led me toward the south, and behold, a gate facing south; and he measured its jambs and its porch according to these same measurements.
25And it had windows, and its porch had windows all around, like those windows; the length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
26And its stairway had seven steps, with its porch in front of them; and it had palm carvings, one on this side and one on that side, upon its jambs.
27And there was a gate to the inner court facing south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south: one hundred cubits.
28Then he brought me into the inner court by the south gate, and he measured the south gate according to these same measurements.
29Its guardrooms and its jambs and its porch were according to these measurements; and it had windows, and its porch had windows all around; the length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
30And there were porches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide.
31And its porches faced toward the outer court, and palm trees were on its pilasters, and its stairway had eight steps.
32Then he brought me into the inner court toward the east, and he measured the gate; it was according to these same measurements.
33Its guardrooms, its pilasters, and its porch were according to these same measurements, and it had windows, as did its porch, all around; its length was fifty cubits and its width twenty-five cubits.
34And its porch faced toward the outer court, and palm trees were on its pilasters, on this side and on that side, and its stairway had eight steps.
35Then he brought me to the north gate and measured it, according to these same measurements:
36its guardrooms, its pilasters, and its porch. It had windows all around; the length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
37Its pilasters faced toward the outer court, and palm trees were on its pilasters, on this side and on that side, and its stairway had eight steps.
38There was a chamber with its doorway by the pilasters of the gates; there they would rinse the burnt offering.
39And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side and two tables on that side, on which to slaughter the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering.
40And outside, on the side toward the one going up to the entrance of the north gate, were two tables, and on the other side, belonging to the porch of the gate, were two tables.
41Four tables were on this side and four tables on that side, at the side of the gate—eight tables, on which they would slaughter.
42And the four tables for the burnt offering were of dressed stone, one and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide, and one cubit high; on them they would lay the implements with which they slaughtered the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
43And the hooks, one handbreadth long, were fastened within, all around; and on the tables was the flesh of the offering.
44And outside the inner gate were chambers for the singers, in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate, and their front faced south; one was at the side of the east gate facing north.
45And he said to me, ‘This chamber that faces south is for the priests who keep the charge of the house.
46And the chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep the charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who from among the sons of Levi draw near to Yahweh to minister to him.’
47Then he measured the court: a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide, a square; and the altar was in front of the house.
48Then he brought me to the porch of the house and measured the pilaster of the porch: five cubits on this side and five cubits on that side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on this side and three cubits on that side.
49The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits; and by the steps by which they went up to it there were pillars beside the pilasters, one on this side and one on that side.
