1And when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all together in one place.
2And suddenly a sound came from heaven like that of a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3And tongues as of fire appeared to them, being distributed, and a tongue sat on each one of them.
4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
5Now there were Jews staying in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
6And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together and was bewildered, because each one was hearing them speaking in his own dialect.
7And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Look, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
8And how is it that we each hear them in our own dialect in which we were born?
9Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, both Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome,
11both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
12And they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”
13But others, mocking, said, “They are full of new wine.”
14But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.
15For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day.
16But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
17‘And it shall be in the last days,’ says God, ‘that I will pour out from my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
18Yes, even on my male servants and on my female servants in those days I will pour out from my Spirit, and they will prophesy.
19And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
20The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21And it shall be that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.’
22Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know—
23this man, delivered up by the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
24But God raised him up, having loosed the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
25For David says concerning him: ‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand, that I might not be shaken.
26Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover, my flesh also will dwell in hope.
27For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, nor will you allow your Holy One to see corruption.
28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with gladness with your presence.’
29Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
30Therefore, being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn an oath to him that one of his descendants would sit on his throne,
31Foreseeing this, he spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see decay.
32This Jesus God raised up, and of this we all are witnesses.
33Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you now see and hear.
34For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
35until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’
36Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38And Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call to himself.”
40And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this crooked generation!”
41So then, those who received his word were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added.
42And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.
43And fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.
44And all who believed were together and had all things in common.
45And they were selling their possessions and property and distributing the proceeds to all, as anyone had need.
46And day by day, devoting themselves with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they partook of their food with gladness and sincerity of heart,
47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
