A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place through all generations.
Before the mountains were born, or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
You return humankind to dust, and you say, “Return, children of Adam.”
For a thousand years in your eyes are like yesterday when it passes by, or like a watch in the night.
You sweep them away; they are like sleep — in the morning like grass that springs up anew.
In the morning it flourishes and passes away; by evening it is cut down and withers.
For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath we are terrified.
You have set our iniquities before you, our hidden sins in the light of your face.
For all our days pass away in your fury; we finish our years like a sigh.
The days of our years — in them are seventy years, or if by strength, eighty years; yet their pride is toil and trouble, for it passes quickly and we fly away.
Who knows the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear due you?
So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Teach Us to Number Our Days
Return, Yahweh! How long? Have compassion on your servants.
Satisfy us in the morning with your loyal love, that we may sing for joy and rejoice all our days.
Give us joy in proportion to the days you afflicted us, the years we saw evil.
Let your work be seen by your servants, and your splendor upon their children.
And let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; establish for us the work of our hands — yes, establish the work of our hands.
