Now the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
“Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them,
and say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord Yahweh! Thus says the Lord Yahweh to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys: Behold, I myself am bringing a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
Your altars shall be made desolate, and your incense altars shall be broken; and I will make your slain fall before your idols.
I will lay the corpses of the sons of Israel before their idols, and I will scatter your bones around your altars.
In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste and the high places made desolate, so that your altars may be laid waste and bear guilt, your idols may be broken and brought to an end, your incense altars cut down, and your works blotted out.
The slain shall fall in your midst, and you will know that I am Yahweh.
Yet I will leave a remnant, in that some of you will be survivors of the sword among the nations, when you are scattered among the lands.
Then your survivors will remember me among the nations where they have been taken captive, how I was broken by their whoring heart that turned away from me, and by their eyes that whored after their idols; and they will loathe themselves for the evils they committed with all their abominations.
And they will know that I am Yahweh; not in vain did I speak of doing this evil to them.
Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Strike with your palm and stamp with your foot, and say, ‘Alas!’ over all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, for by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence they shall fall.
The one far off shall die by pestilence, the one near shall fall by the sword, and the one who remains and is besieged shall die by famine; thus I will spend my wrath upon them.
Then you will know that I am Yahweh, when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and under every leafy oak — the place where they offered a soothing aroma to all their idols.
I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land a desolation and a waste, from the wilderness to Diblah, throughout all their dwelling places; and they will know that I am Yahweh.
