And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
“Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because your heart is exalted, and you have said, “I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas”—yet you are a man and not a god, though you set your heart like the heart of a god—
behold, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you.
By your wisdom and by your understanding you have made wealth for yourself, and you have gathered gold and silver into your treasuries.
By your great wisdom, through your trade, you have increased your wealth, and your heart is exalted because of your wealth.’
Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because you have set your heart like the heart of a god,
therefore, behold, I am bringing against you strangers, the most ruthless of the nations; and they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and profane your splendor.
They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die the deaths of the slain in the heart of the seas.
Will you indeed say, ‘I am a god,’ before the one who kills you—when you are a man and not a god, in the hand of those who wound you?
You will die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers; for I have spoken, declares the Lord Yahweh.”
And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
“Son of man, raise a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: carnelian, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald; and gold. The workmanship of your settings and your engravings was in you; on the day you were created they were prepared.
You were an anointed guardian cherub, and I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked in the midst of stones of fire.
You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you.
In the abundance of your trade your midst was filled with violence, and you sinned. So I cast you as profane from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Your heart was exalted because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom on account of your splendor. I threw you to the ground; I set you before kings, to feast their eyes on you.
By the multitude of your iniquities, in the wrongdoing of your trade, you profaned your sanctuaries. So I brought forth fire from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth before the eyes of all who saw you.
All who knew you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have become a horror, and you shall be no more forever.
And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
“Son of man, set your face toward Sidon, and prophesy against it,
and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I am against you, O Sidon, and I will be glorified in your midst. And they will know that I am Yahweh when I execute judgments in her and show myself holy in her.
I will send into her pestilence and blood in her streets, and the slain will fall in her midst by the sword against her on every side. And they will know that I am Yahweh.
And there will no longer be for the house of Israel a pricking brier or a painful thorn from any of those around them who despise them. And they will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.
Thus says the Lord Yahweh: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and show myself holy in them before the eyes of the nations, then they will dwell on their own land that I gave to my servant, to Jacob.
They will dwell on it securely, and build houses and plant vineyards; they will dwell securely when I execute judgments against all those around them who despise them. And they will know that I am Yahweh their God.”
