And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
“And you, son of man, take up a lament over Tyre,
and say to Tyre: You who dwell at the gateways of the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, thus says the Lord Yahweh: O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’
In the heart of the seas are your borders; your builders perfected your beauty.
Of cypress from Senir they built for you all the planking; a cedar from Lebanon they took to make a mast upon you.
Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars; your deck they made of ivory inlaid in boxwood from the coasts of Kittim.
Fine linen with embroidery from Egypt was your sail, to serve as your banner; blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was your covering.
The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; your skilled ones, O Tyre, were within you—they were your sailors.
The elders of Gebal and its skilled ones were within you, repairing your seams; all the ships of the sea and their mariners were within you to barter your merchandise.
Persia and Lud and Put were in your army, your men of war; shield and helmet they hung within you—they gave you your splendor.
The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls all around, and the Gammadim were in your towers; their shields they hung on your walls all around—they perfected your beauty.
Tarshish was your trader because of your abundance of all wealth; with silver, iron, tin, and lead they supplied your wares.
Javan, Tubal, and Meshech—they were your merchants; with the lives of humans and vessels of bronze they supplied your merchandise.
From Beth-togarmah they supplied your wares with horses, war-horses, and mules.
The sons of Dedan were your merchants; many coastlands were the market for your wares; ivory tusks and ebony they brought back to you as payment.
Aram was your trader because of your abundance of wares; with turquoise, purple, embroidery, fine linen, coral, and rubies they supplied your wares.
Judah and the land of Israel—they were your merchants; with wheat of Minnith, and millet, honey, oil, and balm they supplied your merchandise.
Damascus was your trader because of your abundance of wares, because of your abundance of all wealth—with wine of Helbon and wool of Zahar.
And Vedan and Javan from Uzal supplied your wares; polished iron, cassia, and cane were among your merchandise.
Dedan was your merchant in saddlecloths for riding.
Arabia and all the princes of Kedar—they were the merchants of your hand; in lambs, rams, and goats—in these they were your traders.
The merchants of Sheba and Raamah—they were your merchants; with the finest of all spices, and with every precious stone and gold they supplied your wares.
Haran, Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad were your merchants.
They were your merchants in choice garments, in wrappings of blue and embroidery, and in treasures of woven cloth, bound with cords and made of cedar, in your marketplace.
The ships of Tarshish were your caravans for your merchandise; and you were filled and made very heavy in the heart of the seas.
Into deep waters your rowers brought you; the east wind broke you in the heart of the seas.
Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise, your sailors and your pilots, your seam-repairers and the traders of your merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, along with all the assembly that is within you—they fall into the heart of the seas on the day of your downfall.
At the sound of the outcry of your pilots the open lands shake.
And they go down from their ships—all who handle the oar, the sailors, all the pilots of the sea—they stand on the land.
And they make their voice heard over you and cry out bitterly; they throw dust on their heads and roll in ashes.
They will make themselves bald for you and gird on sackcloth; they will weep for you in bitterness of soul, with bitter mourning.
In their wailing they will raise a lament for you and chant a dirge over you: ‘Who was like Tyre, like one silenced in the midst of the sea?’
When your wares went out from the seas, you satisfied many peoples; with your abundant wealth and merchandise you enriched the kings of the earth.
Now you are wrecked by the seas in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your assembly have fallen in your midst.
All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled over you; their kings shudder with horror, their faces are troubled.
The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you have become a horror, and you are no more, forever.
