Deuteronomy 11

The AIT Bible

Remember God's Mighty Acts

So you shall love Yahweh your God and keep his charge—his statutes, his ordinances, and his commandments—all the days.

And know this day—for it is not your children who did not know and who did not see—the discipline of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,

and his signs and his deeds that he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to all his land;

and what he did to the army of Egypt, to its horses and its chariotry, when he made the waters of the Red Sea flood over them as they pursued after you, and Yahweh destroyed them to this day;

and what he did for you in the wilderness until you came to this place;

and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab son of Reuben, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel.

For it is your own eyes that have seen every great deed of Yahweh that he did.

So you shall keep the whole commandment that I am commanding you today, in order that you may be strong and go in and take possession of the land that you are crossing over into to possess it,

and in order that you may prolong your days upon the ground that Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed—a land flowing with milk and honey.

For the land that you are entering to possess it is not like the land of Egypt, from which you came out, where you would sow your seed and water it with your foot like a vegetable garden.

But the land that you are crossing over into to possess it is a land of hills and valleys; from the rain of heaven it drinks water,

a land that Yahweh your God cares for; the eyes of Yahweh your God are continually upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

The Land and Its Blessings

And it shall be, if you truly listen to my commandments that I am commanding you today, to love Yahweh your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your self,

then I will give the rain of your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, so that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your fresh oil.

And I will give grass in your field for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.

Take care for yourselves, lest your heart be enticed and you turn aside and serve other gods and bow down to them.

Then the anger of Yahweh would burn against you, and he would shut up the heavens so that there would be no rain, and the ground would not give its produce, and you would quickly perish from off the good land that Yahweh is giving you.

So you shall set these my words upon your heart and upon your self; and you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, and when you lie down and when you rise up.

And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

so that your days and the days of your children may be many upon the ground that Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them, like the days of the heavens over the earth.

For if you diligently keep this whole commandment that I am commanding you to do it—to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him—

then Yahweh will dispossess all these nations from before you, and you will take possession of nations greater and mightier than you.

Every place where the sole of your foot treads shall be yours; from the wilderness and the Lebanon, from the River, the River Euphrates, as far as the western sea, shall be your territory.

No one will stand before you; Yahweh your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, as he spoke to you.

A Blessing and a Curse

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:

the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you today,

and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God but turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today, to go after other gods that you have not known.

And it shall be, when Yahweh your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess it, you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.

Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the setting sun, in the land of the Canaanite who dwells in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?

For you are crossing over the Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you; and you will take possession of it and dwell in it.

And you shall be careful to do all the statutes and the ordinances that I am setting before you today.
