1And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:
2Command the sons of Israel that they send out from the camp everyone with a skin disease, everyone with a discharge, and everyone unclean through a corpse.
3Whether male or female, you shall send them out; outside the camp you shall send them, so that they do not defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell.
4And the sons of Israel did so and sent them outside the camp; just as Yahweh had spoken to Moses, so the sons of Israel did.
5And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:
6Speak to the sons of Israel: When a man or woman commits any of the sins of humankind, acting unfaithfully against Yahweh, and that person becomes guilty,
7then they shall confess their sin that they have committed, and he shall make restitution in full for his guilt, adding to it a fifth, and give it to the one against whom he was guilty.
8But if the man has no kinsman-redeemer to whom restitution for the guilt can be made, the restitution that is returned to Yahweh belongs to the priest, besides the ram of atonement by which he makes atonement for him.
9And every contribution of all the holy things of the sons of Israel that they bring to the priest shall belong to him.
10Each man’s holy things shall belong to him; whatever anyone gives to the priest shall belong to him.
11And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying:
12Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them: If any man’s wife goes astray and acts unfaithfully against him,
13and a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is kept secret—yet she has been defiled—though there is no witness against her and she was not caught,
14and a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he becomes jealous of his wife, and she has defiled herself; or a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he becomes jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself —
15then the man shall bring his wife to the priest and bring her offering for her, a tenth of an ephah of barley flour. He shall not pour oil on it nor put frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of remembrance, bringing iniquity to mind.
16And the priest shall bring her near and set her before Yahweh.
17And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and from the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take and put it into the water.
18And the priest shall set the woman before Yahweh and unbind the hair of the woman’s head, and put in her hands the grain offering of remembrance — it is a grain offering of jealousy — while in the hand of the priest shall be the bitter water that brings a curse.
19And the priest shall put her under oath and say to the woman: If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray into defilement while under your husband, be free from harm from this bitter water that brings a curse.
20But if you have gone astray while under your husband, and if you have defiled yourself, and a man other than your husband has lain with you —
21then the priest shall put the woman under the oath of the curse, and the priest shall say to the woman: May Yahweh make you a curse and an oath among your people, when Yahweh makes your thigh fall away and your belly swell.
22And this water that brings a curse shall enter your bowels to make the belly swell and the thigh fall away. And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.
23Then the priest shall write these curses in a scroll and wash them off into the bitter water.
24And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings a curse shall enter her and become bitter.
25And the priest shall take from the woman’s hand the grain offering of jealousy, and wave the grain offering before Yahweh, and bring it near to the altar.
26And the priest shall take a handful from the grain offering as its memorial portion and burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water.
27And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and acted unfaithfully against her husband, the water that brings a curse shall enter her and become bitter, and her belly shall swell and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman shall become a curse in the midst of her people.
28But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive seed.
29This is the law of jealousy, when a woman goes astray while under her husband and defiles herself,
30or when a spirit of jealousy comes over a man and he becomes jealous of his wife: he shall set the woman before Yahweh, and the priest shall carry out for her all this law.
31The man shall be free from iniquity, but that woman shall bear her iniquity.
