Sing, O barren one who has not given birth! Break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one are more than the children of the married one, says Yahweh.
Enlarge the site of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not hold back. Lengthen your cords and strengthen your pegs.
For you will burst out to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess nations and settle the desolate cities.
Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; and do not be disgraced, for you will not be humiliated. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
For your husband is your Maker—Yahweh of hosts is his name—and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; he is called the God of all the earth.
For Yahweh has called you like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is rejected, says your God.
For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you.
In a flood of wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting loyal love I will have compassion on you, says your Redeemer, Yahweh.
For this is to me like the days of Noah: as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again pass over the earth, so I have sworn not to be angry with you and not to rebuke you.
For the mountains may depart and the hills may totter, but my loyal love will not depart from you, and my covenant of peace will not totter, says Yahweh, the one who has compassion on you.
O afflicted one, storm-tossed, not comforted: behold, I am setting your stones in antimony, and I will lay your foundations with sapphires.
I will make your battlements of rubies, and your gates of sparkling stones, and all your border of precious stones.
And all your children will be taught by Yahweh, and great will be the peace of your children.
In righteousness you will be established. Be far from oppression, for you will not fear, and from terror, for it will not come near you.
If anyone stirs up strife, it is not from me; whoever attacks you will fall because of you.
Behold, I myself have created the smith who blows on the fire of coals and brings out a weapon for its work; and I myself have created the destroyer to ravage.
No weapon formed against you will succeed, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Yahweh, and their vindication is from me, declares Yahweh.
