1On that day Yahweh will punish with his sword—the hard, the great, and the strong—Leviathan the fleeing serpent, and Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.
2On that day: ‘A vineyard of delight—sing of it!’
3I, Yahweh, am its keeper; every moment I water it, lest anyone harm it. Night and day I guard it.
4I have no wrath. Who will give me briers and thorns in battle? I would march against it, I would burn it all together.
5Or let it take hold of my refuge, let it make peace with me; peace let it make with me.
6In days to come Jacob will take root; Israel will blossom and bud, and they will fill the face of the world with fruit.
7Has he struck him as he struck those who struck him? Or has he been slain as his slayers were slain?
8By expulsion, by sending her away, you contended with her; he removed her with his hard blast in the day of the east wind.
9Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be atoned for, and this is the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the altar stones like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no Asherahs or incense-altars will stand.
10For the fortified city is solitary, a pasture forsaken and abandoned like the wilderness; there the calf grazes, and there it lies down and consumes its branches.
11When its branches dry up they are broken off; women come and set them ablaze. For it is a people without understanding; therefore its Maker will not have compassion on it, and its Fashioner will show it no favor.
12And on that day Yahweh will thresh out the grain-heads from the River to the Wadi of Egypt, and you will be gathered one by one, O sons of Israel.
13And on that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those perishing in the land of Assyria and those driven away in the land of Egypt will come, and they will bow down to Yahweh on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.
