1Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you shattered.
2Be ready by the morning, and in the morning come up to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to me there on the top of the mountain.
3No one shall come up with you, nor let anyone be seen anywhere on the mountain; let neither the flocks nor the herds graze in front of that mountain.”
4So he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and Moses rose early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and he took in his hand the two tablets of stone.
5And Yahweh went down in the cloud and stood with him there, and he called out in the name of Yahweh.
6Then Yahweh passed by before him and called out: “Yahweh, Yahweh, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness,
7keeping loyal love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, yet by no means leaving the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers upon children and upon children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
8And Moses hurried and bowed down to the ground and worshiped.
9And he said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my Lord, please let my Lord go in our midst—for it is a stiff-necked people—and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.”
10And he said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do wonders such as have not been created in all the earth or among any of the nations, and all the people among whom you are will see the work of Yahweh, for it is awesome, this that I am doing with you.
11Keep for yourself what I am commanding you today. Behold, I am about to drive out before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
12Take care for yourself, lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitant of the land into which you are coming, lest it become a snare in your midst.
13Rather, you shall tear down their altars, and smash their sacred pillars, and cut down their Asherah poles.
14For you shall not bow down to another god, for Yahweh—Jealous is his name—is a jealous God.
15Lest you cut a covenant with the inhabitant of the land, and they whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and one invites you and you eat from his sacrifice,
16and you take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters whore after their gods and lead your sons to whore after their gods.
17You shall not make for yourself molten gods.
18The Feast of Unleavened Bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt.
19Every one that opens the womb is mine, and all your livestock that is male, the firstborn of ox and sheep.
20But the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. Every firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. And none shall appear before me empty-handed.
21Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing and in harvest you shall rest.
22And you shall keep for yourself the Feast of Weeks, the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
23Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord Yahweh, the God of Israel.
24For I will dispossess nations before you and enlarge your border, and no one will covet your land when you go up to appear before Yahweh your God three times in the year.
25You shall not slaughter the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, nor shall the sacrifice of the Feast of Passover be left overnight until the morning.
26The first of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.
27Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Write for yourself these words, for according to these words I have cut a covenant with you and with Israel.”
28And he was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he ate no bread and drank no water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Words.
29And it happened, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai—with the two tablets of the testimony in Moses’ hand as he came down from the mountain—that Moses did not know that the skin of his face had become radiant while he spoke with him.
30And Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face was radiant, and they were afraid to approach him.
31But Moses called out to them, and Aaron and all the leaders in the congregation returned to him, and Moses spoke to them.
32And afterward all the sons of Israel drew near, and he commanded them all that Yahweh had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
33When Moses finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
34But whenever Moses came before Yahweh to speak with him, he would remove the veil until he came out; then he would come out and tell the sons of Israel what he had been commanded.
35And the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was radiant; then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with him.
