Isaiah 25

The AIT Bible

Praise for Destroying the City

1Yahweh, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name, for you have done a wonder—plans from long ago, faithful and sure.

2For you have made a city into a heap of rubble, a fortified town into a ruin; the citadel of foreigners is no more a city, it will never be rebuilt.

3Therefore a strong people will honor you, the town of ruthless nations will fear you.

4For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the downpour, a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a downpour against a wall,

5like heat in a parched land. You subdue the uproar of foreigners; like heat by the shadow of a cloud, the song of the ruthless is brought low.

The Feast on God's Mountain

6And Yahweh of hosts will make for all the peoples on this mountain a feast of rich foods, a feast of well-aged wines—rich foods full of marrow, well-aged wines refined.

7And on this mountain he will swallow up the covering, the covering over all the peoples, and the veil that is spread over all the nations.

8He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord Yahweh will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will remove from all the earth; for Yahweh has spoken.

9And it will be said on that day: “Behold, this is our God; we waited for him, and he saved us. This is Yahweh; we waited for him. Let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

The Downfall of Moab

10For the hand of Yahweh will rest on this mountain, and Moab will be trodden down in his place as straw is trodden down in a dung-pit.

11And he will spread out his hands within it as a swimmer spreads them out to swim, but he will bring down his pride together with the tricks of his hands.

12And the high fortress of your walls he has cast down, laid low, brought to the ground, down to the dust.
