Sixth Vision: The Flying Scroll

Again I lifted my eyes and looked, and there was a flying scroll.

And he said to me, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits.”

And he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land; for everyone who steals has, according to it, gone unpunished, and everyone who swears has, according to it, gone unpunished.

I have sent it out — the declaration of Yahweh of hosts — and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by my name; it will lodge within his house and consume it, both its timbers and its stones.

Wickedness Carried Away

Then the messenger who was speaking with me went out and said to me, “Lift up your eyes and see what this is that goes out.”

And I said, “What is it?” And he said, “This is the ephah that goes out.” And he said, “This is their appearance in all the land.”

And behold, a disk of lead was lifted up, and there was one woman sitting inside the ephah.

And he said, “This is Wickedness,” and he threw her back into the middle of the ephah and threw the leaden weight onto its mouth.

Then I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, two women coming out, and the wind was in their wings — and they had wings like the wings of a stork — and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens.

And I said to the messenger who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the ephah?”

And he said to me, “To build a house for her in the land of Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there on her base.”
