Psalms 72

The AIT Bible

A Prayer for the King's Reign

Of Solomon. O God, give the king your judgments, and your righteousness to the king’s son.

May he judge your people with righteousness, and your afflicted ones with justice.

Let the mountains bear peace for the people, and the hills, in righteousness.

May he defend the afflicted of the people, save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor.

May they fear you as long as the sun endures, and before the moon, generation after generation.

May he come down like rain on mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

In his days may the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace, till the moon is no more.

May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Before him may the desert-dwellers bow down, and his enemies lick the dust.

May the kings of Tarshish and the coastlands render tribute, the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts.

May all kings bow down to him; may all nations serve him.

For he delivers the needy who cries out, and the afflicted who has no helper.

He has pity on the poor and needy, and the lives of the needy he saves.

From oppression and violence he redeems their life, and their blood is precious in his eyes.

May he live, and may gold of Sheba be given to him; may prayer be made for him continually, all the day may he be blessed.

May there be an abundance of grain in the land, on the top of the mountains; may its fruit wave like Lebanon, and may they blossom from the city like the grass of the earth.

May his name endure forever; before the sun may his name flourish. And may all nations be blessed through him; may they call him blessed.
