0For the choirmaster. A psalm of David.
1Deliver me, Yahweh, from the evil person; from the man of violence preserve me,
2who plan evils in their heart; all day long they stir up wars.
3They sharpen their tongue like a serpent; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah.
4Guard me, Yahweh, from the hands of the wicked; from the man of violence preserve me — those who plan to trip up my steps.
5The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords; they have spread a net beside the path; they have set snares for me. Selah.
6I said to Yahweh, ‘You are my God; give ear, Yahweh, to the voice of my pleas for mercy.’
7Yahweh, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.
8Do not grant, Yahweh, the desires of the wicked; do not promote his scheme, lest they exalt themselves. Selah.
9As for the head of those who surround me — let the trouble of their lips cover them.
10Let burning coals be shaken down upon them; let him cast them into the fire, into deep pits, that they rise no more.
11Let no man of the tongue be established in the land; as for the man of violence — let evil hunt him down with blow after blow.
12I know that Yahweh will maintain the cause of the afflicted, the justice of the needy.
13Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name; the upright will dwell in your presence.
