And the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem, while the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, and the nine parts to remain in the towns.
And the people blessed all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.
Now these are the heads of the province who settled in Jerusalem. But in the towns of Judah each lived on his own property in their towns — Israel, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon’s servants.
And in Jerusalem some of the descendants of Judah and some of the descendants of Benjamin settled. Of the descendants of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son of Mahalalel, of the descendants of Perez;
and Maaseiah son of Baruch, son of Col-hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, son of the Shilonite.
All the descendants of Perez who settled in Jerusalem were four hundred sixty-eight able men.
And these are the descendants of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah, son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah;
and after him Gabbai and Sallai, nine hundred twenty-eight.
And Joel son of Zichri was overseer over them, and Judah son of Hassenuah was second over the city.
Of the priests: Jedaiah son of Joiarib, Jachin,
Seraiah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, chief officer of the house of God,
and their kinsmen who did the work for the house, eight hundred twenty-two; and Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah,
and his kinsmen, heads of ancestral houses, two hundred forty-two; and Amashsai son of Azarel, son of Ahzai, son of Meshillemoth, son of Immer,
and their kinsmen, mighty men of valor, one hundred twenty-eight; and overseer over them was Zabdiel son of Haggedolim.
And of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son of Bunni;
and Shabbethai and Jozabad, over the outside work of the house of God, from among the heads of the Levites;
and Mattaniah son of Micah, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, the leader who began the thanksgiving at prayer; and Bakbukiah, second among his kinsmen; and Abda son of Shammua, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun.
All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred eighty-four.
And the gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon, and their kinsmen who kept watch at the gates, one hundred seventy-two.
And the rest of Israel, the priests, and the Levites were in all the towns of Judah, each on his inheritance.
And the temple servants lived on the Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa were over the temple servants.
And the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Mica, of the descendants of Asaph, the singers, over the work of the house of God.
For there was a command of the king concerning them, and a fixed arrangement for the singers, each day’s matter in its day.
And Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, of the descendants of Zerah son of Judah, was at the king’s hand in every matter concerning the people.
And as for the villages with their fields, some of the descendants of Judah lived in Kiriath-arba and its dependent settlements, in Dibon and its settlements, in Jekabzeel and its villages,
and in Jeshua, in Moladah, in Beth-pelet,
in Hazar-shual, in Beersheba and its dependent settlements,
in Ziklag, in Meconah and its dependent settlements,
in En-rimmon, in Zorah, in Jarmuth,
Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its fields, Azekah and its dependent settlements. So they encamped from Beersheba as far as the Valley of Hinnom.
And the sons of Benjamin lived from Geba onward: at Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its villages,
Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,
Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,
Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,
Lod, and Ono, the Valley of the Craftsmen.
And some of the Levites, divisions of Judah, belonged to Benjamin.
