As fire kindles brushwood, as fire makes water boil, to make your name known to your adversaries, so that the nations may tremble at your presence—
when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains flowed down at your presence.
From of old none have heard, none have given ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for the one who waits for him.
You met the one who rejoices and does righteousness, those who remember you in your ways. Behold, you were angry, and we sinned; in them we have been long, yet we will be saved.
We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; we all wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us off like the wind.
There is no one who calls on your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have melted us away by the hand of our iniquities.
But now, Yahweh, you are our father; we are the clay, and you are our potter, and all of us are the work of your hand.
Do not be angry beyond measure, Yahweh, and do not remember iniquity forever. Behold, look now, we are all your people.
Your holy cities have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
Our holy and beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, has been burned with fire, and all our precious places have become a ruin.
Will you restrain yourself over these things, Yahweh? Will you keep silent and afflict us beyond measure?
