1For every high priest, taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men in the things pertaining to God, so that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins,
2able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also beset by weakness,
3and because of it he is obligated, just as for the people, so also for himself, to make offering for sins.
4And no one takes the honor for himself, but rather is called by God, just as Aaron also was.
5So too Christ did not glorify himself to become a high priest, but the one who said to him, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you’;
6just as he also says in another place, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.’
7He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and having been heard because of his reverence,
8although he was a Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered;
9and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,
10designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
11Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull in hearing.
12For indeed, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you again have need of someone to teach you the elementary principles of the beginning of the oracles of God, and you have become such as have need of milk, not solid food.
13For everyone who partakes of milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is an infant;
14but solid food is for the mature, those who through practice have their faculties trained to distinguish good from evil.
