1And it happened, when humankind began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them,
2the sons of God saw that the daughters of humankind were good, and they took for themselves wives from all whom they chose.
3Then Yahweh said, “My spirit will not contend with humankind forever, for he too is flesh; his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.”
4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God came in to the daughters of humankind and they bore children to them. These were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of renown.
5And Yahweh saw that the evil of humankind was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the day.
6And Yahweh was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
7And Yahweh said, “I will wipe out humankind whom I created from off the face of the ground, from human to beast to creeping thing and to the bird of the heavens, for I am sorry that I made them.”
8But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.
9These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generations; Noah walked with God.
10And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth.
13And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them together with the earth.
14Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and you shall cover it inside and outside with pitch.
15And this is how you shall make it: three hundred cubits the length of the ark, fifty cubits its breadth, and thirty cubits its height.
16You shall make a roof for the ark, and to a cubit you shall finish it from above; and the door of the ark you shall put in its side; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.
17And I, behold, I am bringing the flood—waters upon the earth—to destroy all flesh that has the breath of life in it from under the heavens; everything that is on the earth shall perish.
18But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
19And from every living thing, from all flesh, two of each you shall bring into the ark to keep alive with you; they shall be male and female.
20From the birds according to their kind, and from the beasts according to their kind, from every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind—two of each shall come to you, to keep alive.
21And as for you, take for yourself from all food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself, and it shall be food for you and for them.
22And Noah did so; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
