And you, son of man, take yourself a brick and set it before you, and engrave on it a city — Jerusalem.
And lay siege against it, and build a siege-wall against it, and heap up a ramp against it, and set camps against it, and place battering rams against it all around.
And you, take yourself an iron griddle and set it up as an iron wall between you and the city; and set your face against it, and it will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. This is a sign for the house of Israel.
And you, lie down on your left side and place the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it; for the number of days that you lie upon it you shall bear their iniquity.
For I have assigned to you the years of their iniquity as a number of days: three hundred and ninety days; and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, on your right side, and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days — a day for a year, a day for a year I have assigned to you.
And you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, with your arm bared, and you shall prophesy against it.
And behold, I have placed cords upon you, so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have completed the days of your siege.
And you, take yourself wheat and barley and beans and lentils and millet and spelt, and put them in a single vessel, and make them into bread for yourself; for the number of days that you lie on your side — three hundred and ninety days — you shall eat it.
And your food that you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it.
And water you shall drink by measure, a sixth of a hin; from one appointed time to the next you shall drink.
And you shall eat it as a barley cake, and you shall bake it before their eyes over dung of human excrement.
And Yahweh said, “So shall the sons of Israel eat their bread unclean among the nations to which I will drive them.”
And I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, my self has never been defiled; from my youth until now I have never eaten a carcass or a torn animal, nor has foul flesh ever come into my mouth.”
And he said to me, “See, I have granted you cattle dung in place of human excrement, and you shall prepare your bread over it.”
And he said to me, “Son of man, behold, I am breaking the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they shall eat bread by weight and in anxiety, and drink water by measure and in horror,
so that they will lack bread and water, and each man and his brother will be appalled and waste away in their iniquity.
