And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their own heart, ‘Hear the word of Yahweh!’
Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Woe to the foolish prophets who walk after their own spirit and have seen nothing!
Like foxes among ruins, O Israel, your prophets have been.
You have not gone up into the breaches, nor built up a wall around the house of Israel, so as to stand in the battle on the day of Yahweh.
They have seen falsehood and lying divination, those who say, ‘Utterance of Yahweh,’ when Yahweh has not sent them; yet they wait for the word to be fulfilled.
Have you not seen a false vision and spoken a lying divination, saying, ‘Utterance of Yahweh,’ when I have not spoken?
Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Because you have spoken falsehood and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, utterance of the Lord Yahweh.
My hand will be against the prophets who see falsehood and divine lies. They shall not be in the council of my people, nor be written in the register of the house of Israel, nor enter the land of Israel; and you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.
Because, yes, because they have led my people astray, saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and when one builds a flimsy wall, behold, they daub it with whitewash —
say to those who daub with whitewash that it shall fall. There will be a flooding rain; and you, O hailstones, will fall, and a stormwind will break forth.
And behold, when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the daubing with which you daubed?’
Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will break forth with a stormwind in my wrath, and there will be a flooding rain in my anger, and hailstones in fury, to make an end.
I will tear down the wall that you daubed with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation is laid bare; it shall fall, and you will be consumed in the midst of it, and you will know that I am Yahweh.
So I will spend my wrath on the wall and on those who daubed it with whitewash, and I will say to you, ‘The wall is no more, and those who daubed it are no more’ —
the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem and see for her a vision of peace, when there is no peace, utterance of the Lord Yahweh.
“And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy from their own heart, and prophesy against them,
and say: Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Woe to the women who sew magic bands upon all wrist-joints, and make veils for the head of every stature, to hunt down lives! Will you hunt down the lives of my people, yet keep your own lives alive?
You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and morsels of bread, putting to death lives that should not die and keeping alive lives that should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to lies.
Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I am against your magic bands with which you hunt lives like birds, and I will tear them from your arms, and I will set free the lives that you hunt, the lives, like birds.
I will tear off your veils and rescue my people from your hand, and they shall no longer be prey in your hand; and you will know that I am Yahweh.
Because you have disheartened the heart of the righteous with falsehood, though I had not caused him pain, and because you strengthened the hands of the wicked so that he would not turn from his evil way to save his life —
therefore you shall no longer see falsehood or practice divination; I will rescue my people from your hand, and you will know that I am Yahweh.”
