The Final Plague Announced

And Yahweh said to Moses, “One more plague I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt; after that he will send you away from here. When he sends you away, it will be complete — he will utterly drive you out from here.

Speak now in the ears of the people, and let each man ask from his neighbor, and each woman from her neighbor, objects of silver and objects of gold.”

And Yahweh gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the eyes of Pharaoh’s servants and in the eyes of the people.

And Moses said, “Thus says Yahweh: About midnight I am going out into the midst of Egypt,

and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the slave woman who is behind the millstones, and every firstborn of the livestock.

And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as has never been and such as shall never be again.

But against any of the sons of Israel not even a dog shall sharpen its tongue, neither against man nor beast — so that you may know that Yahweh makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.

And all these servants of yours shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Go out, you and all the people who follow you!’ And after that I will go out.” And he went out from Pharaoh in burning anger.

And Yahweh said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”

And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but Yahweh strengthened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not send the sons of Israel away out of his land.
