1Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says Yahweh: Let my people go, that they may serve me.
2But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I am about to plague all your territory with frogs.
3The Nile will swarm with frogs, and they will come up and enter your house, and your bedroom, and onto your bed, and into the house of your servants, and among your people, and into your ovens and into your kneading bowls.
4The frogs will come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.”’”
5Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals, and over the pools, and bring up the frogs upon the land of Egypt.’”
6So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
7But the magicians did the same by their secret arts, and they brought up the frogs upon the land of Egypt.
8Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Plead with Yahweh to remove the frogs from me and from my people, and I will let the people go that they may sacrifice to Yahweh.”
9And Moses said to Pharaoh, “Take for yourself the honor over me: by when shall I plead for you and for your servants and for your people, that the frogs be cut off from you and from your houses, remaining only in the Nile?”
10He said, “Tomorrow.” And Moses said, “According to your word, that you may know that there is no one like Yahweh our God.
11The frogs will depart from you and from your houses and from your servants and from your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
12Then Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried out to Yahweh concerning the frogs that he had brought upon Pharaoh.
13And Yahweh did according to Moses’ word, and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyards, and out of the fields.
14They piled them up in heaps upon heaps, and the land stank.
15But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not listen to them, just as Yahweh had said.
16Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, and it will become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.’”
17And they did so: Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and the gnats came upon man and beast. All the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.
18The magicians tried by their secret arts to bring forth the gnats, but they could not. So the gnats were upon man and beast.
19Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, just as Yahweh had said.
20Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh — behold, he goes out to the water — and say to him, ‘Thus says Yahweh: Let my people go, that they may serve me.
21For if you will not let my people go, behold, I am going to send swarms of flies upon you and your servants and your people and your houses; the houses of the Egyptians will be filled with the swarms, and even the ground on which they stand.
22But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people stand, so that no swarms will be there, in order that you may know that I, Yahweh, am in the midst of the land.
23I will make a distinction between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will come.”
24And Yahweh did so: heavy swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh and the houses of his servants, and throughout all the land of Egypt the land was being ruined because of the swarms.
25Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.”
26But Moses said, “It would not be right to do so, for we would be sacrificing to Yahweh our God what is an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice before their eyes what is an abomination to the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
27We must go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to Yahweh our God, as he tells us.”
28So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to Yahweh your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far. Plead for me.”
29And Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you, and I will plead with Yahweh, and the swarms will depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow. Only let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully again by not letting the people go to sacrifice to Yahweh.”
30Then Moses went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with Yahweh.
31And Yahweh did according to Moses’ word: he removed the swarms from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained.
32But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go.
