Hear this word that Yahweh has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:
“You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will visit upon you all your iniquities.
Do two walk together unless they have agreed to meet?
Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey? Does a young lion give forth its voice from its den unless it has caught something?
Does a bird fall into a snare on the ground when there is no trap for it? Does a snare spring up from the ground when it has caught nothing at all?
If a ram’s horn is blown in a city, do the people not tremble? If disaster comes upon a city, has Yahweh not done it?
Surely the Lord Yahweh does nothing without revealing his counsel to his servants the prophets.
A lion has roared; who will not fear? The Lord Yahweh has spoken; who will not prophesy?
Proclaim it upon the citadels in Ashdod and upon the citadels in the land of Egypt, and say: Gather yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria and see the great tumults within her and the oppressions in her midst.
They do not know how to do what is right, declares Yahweh, those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.
Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: An adversary shall surround the land, and he will bring down your strength from you, and your citadels shall be plundered.
Thus says Yahweh: As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two shinbones or a piece of an ear, so shall the children of Israel be rescued, those who dwell in Samaria on the corner of a bed and on the damask of a couch.
Hear and testify against the house of Jacob, declares the Lord Yahweh, the God of hosts.
For on the day I visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, I will also visit upon the altars of Bethel, and the horns of the altar shall be cut off and fall to the ground.
I will strike the winter house together with the summer house, and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall come to an end, declares Yahweh.
