1And it happened, when Solomon had finished building the house of Yahweh and the house of the king, and all Solomon’s desire that he was pleased to do,
2that Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.
3And Yahweh said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your plea that you have pleaded before me. I have consecrated this house that you built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart will be there all the days.
4And as for you, if you walk before me as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, keeping my statutes and my ordinances,
5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I spoke concerning David your father, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
6But if you and your sons turn back from following me and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them,
7then I will cut off Israel from upon the face of the land that I have given to them, and the house that I have consecrated for my name I will cast out from before my face; and Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all the peoples.
8And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone passing by it will be appalled and will hiss, and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?’
9And they will say, ‘Because they forsook Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and they laid hold of other gods and bowed down to them and served them — therefore Yahweh has brought upon them all this disaster.’”
10And it happened at the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built the two houses, the house of Yahweh and the house of the king —
11Hiram king of Tyre having supplied Solomon with cedar timber and cypress timber and gold, for all his desire — then King Solomon gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, and they were not right in his eyes.
13And he said, “What are these cities that you have given me, my brother?” And he called them the land of Cabul, to this day.
14And Hiram sent to the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold.
15And this is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon raised, to build the house of Yahweh and his own house and the Millo and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor and Megiddo and Gezer.
16Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and the Canaanite dwelling in the city he had killed; and he gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
17So Solomon rebuilt Gezer, and Lower Beth-horon,
18and Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land.
19and all the storage cities that belonged to Solomon, and the cities for the chariotry, and the cities for the horsemen, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem and in Lebanon and in all the land of his dominion.
20All the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel —
21their sons who were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel had not been able to devote to destruction — these Solomon raised up as a slave labor force, to this day.
22But of the sons of Israel Solomon did not make anyone a slave; for they were the men of war, and his servants, and his officials, and his officers, and the commanders of his chariotry and his horsemen.
23These were the chief officers who were over the work belonging to Solomon: five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people doing the work.
24As soon as Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David to her house that he had built for her, then he built the Millo.
25And Solomon offered up three times a year burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar that he had built for Yahweh, and he burned incense with it, before Yahweh. So he completed the house.
26And King Solomon made a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
27And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, seamen who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon.
28And they came to Ophir and took from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to King Solomon.
