The Divisions of the Gatekeepers

As for the divisions of the gatekeepers: of the Korahites, Meshelemiah son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.

And Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Eliehoenai the seventh.

And Obed-edom had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sachar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,

Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peullethai the eighth, for God had blessed him.

And to Shemaiah his son were sons born who ruled over the house of their father, for they were mighty men of valor.

The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, Elzabad, whose brothers were men of valor, Elihu and Semachiah.

All these were of the sons of Obed-edom, they and their sons and their brothers, capable men in strength for the service — sixty-two belonging to Obed-edom.

And Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, men of valor — eighteen.

And Hosah of the sons of Merari had sons: Shimri the head, for though he was not the firstborn, his father set him as head;

Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth. All the sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen.

To these belonged the divisions of the gatekeepers, by the heads of the men, having duties alongside their brothers, to minister in the house of Yahweh.

And they cast lots, small and great alike, by their fathers’ houses, for each gate.

And the lot for the east fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a counselor with insight, they cast lots, and his lot came out for the north.

To Obed-edom, the south; and to his sons, the house of storage.

To Shuppim and Hosah, the west, at the gate of Shallecheth on the ascending highway, guard corresponding to guard.

On the east, six Levites; on the north, four each day; on the south, four each day; and at the storehouse, two by two.

At the colonnade on the west, four at the highway, two at the colonnade.

These were the divisions of the gatekeepers, of the sons of the Korahites and of the sons of Merari.

Levites in Charge of Treasuries

And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God and over the treasuries of the dedicated things.

The sons of Ladan: the sons of the Gershonite belonging to Ladan, the heads of the fathers’ houses belonging to Ladan the Gershonite — the Jehielites.

The sons of the Jehielites: Zetham and Joel his brother, over the treasuries of the house of Yahweh.

Of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, the Uzzielites:

Shebuel son of Gershom, son of Moses, was chief officer over the treasuries.

And his brothers by Eliezer: Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.

This Shelomoth and his brothers were over all the treasuries of the dedicated things that David the king and the heads of the fathers’ houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the commanders of the army had dedicated.

From the wars and from the spoil they had dedicated them, to strengthen the house of Yahweh.

And everything that Samuel the seer had dedicated, and Saul son of Kish, and Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah — everything dedicated was under the care of Shelomith and his brothers.

Levitical Officers and Judges

Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outside work over Israel, as officers and judges.

Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers, men of valor, one thousand seven hundred, were over the oversight of Israel west of the Jordan, for all the work of Yahweh and for the service of the king.

As for the Hebronites, Jerijah was the head of the Hebronites, according to their genealogies by fathers’ houses. In the fortieth year of David’s reign they were sought out, and mighty warriors were found among them at Jazer in Gilead.

And his relatives, capable men, numbered two thousand seven hundred heads of fathers’ houses. King David appointed them over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites for every matter of God and every matter of the king.
