1David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
2David and all the people who were with him arose and went from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name — the name of Yahweh of hosts, who is enthroned upon the cherubim.
3They set the ark of God on a new cart and carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart.
4They carried it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, with the ark of God, and Ahio was walking before the ark.
5And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood: with lyres, harps, tambourines, sistrums, and cymbals.
6When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out toward the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen had stumbled.
7And the anger of Yahweh burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for the irreverence, and he died there beside the ark of God.
8And David became angry because Yahweh had broken out with a breach against Uzzah, and he called that place Perez-uzzah, as it is to this day.
9And David was afraid of Yahweh that day, and he said, “How can the ark of Yahweh come to me?”
10So David was unwilling to bring the ark of Yahweh to himself, into the City of David; instead David diverted it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
11The ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and Yahweh blessed Obed-edom and all his household.
12It was told to King David, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with joy.
13And when those bearing the ark of Yahweh had marched six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.
14And David whirled about with all his might before Yahweh, and David was girded with a linen ephod.
15So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of Yahweh with shouting and with the sound of the ram’s horn.
16And as the ark of Yahweh was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked down through the window and saw King David leaping and whirling about before Yahweh, and she despised him in her heart.
17They brought in the ark of Yahweh and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered up burnt offerings before Yahweh and peace offerings.
18When David had finished offering up the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of hosts.
19And he distributed to all the people, to the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, to each one a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a raisin cake. Then all the people departed, each to his house.
20When David returned to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, exposing himself today before the eyes of his servants’ maidservants, as one of the worthless fellows would shamelessly expose himself!”
21But David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me over your father and over all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of Yahweh, over Israel — so I will celebrate before Yahweh.
22And I will humble myself even more than this, and I will be lowly in my own eyes; yet by the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be honored.”
23And Michal daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
