Tobit 13

The AIT Bible

Tobit's Song of Praise

And he said, ‘Blessed is God who lives forever, and blessed is his kingdom.’

For he scourges and has mercy; he brings down to Hades, to the lowest parts of the earth, and he brings up from the great destruction. And there is nothing that will escape his hand.

Give thanks to him, O sons of Israel, in the sight of the nations, because he has scattered you among them,

and there he has shown you his greatness. Exalt him in the sight of all the living, because he is our Lord, and he is our God, and he is our Father, and he is God for all ages.

He will scourge you for your injustices, and he will have mercy on all of you from all the nations, wherever you may be scattered among them.

When you turn back to him with all your heart and with all your soul to act in truth before him, then he will turn back to you and will no longer hide his face from you. And now, see what he has done with you, and give thanks to him with your whole mouth. Bless the Lord of righteousness and exalt the King of the ages.

I exalt my God, and my soul will exult in the King of heaven and rejoice in his greatness.

Let all people speak and give thanks to him in Jerusalem.

O Jerusalem, city of the Holy One, he will scourge you for the works of your sons, and again he will have mercy on the sons of the righteous.

And again your tabernacle will be built for you with joy. May he make all the captives glad in you, and may he love in you all the afflicted for all generations forever.

A bright light will shine to all the ends of the earth. Many nations will come from afar, from all the ends of the earth, to your holy name, holding their gifts in their hands for the King of heaven. Generations of generations will offer you joy, and the name of the chosen one will be for all generations forever.

Cursed are all who speak a harsh word against you; cursed will be all who tear you down and pull down your walls, and all who overthrow your towers and set fire to your dwellings. But blessed forever will be all who revere you.

Then go and rejoice with the sons of the righteous, for they will all be gathered together and will bless the eternal Lord.

Blessed are those who love you, and blessed are those who will rejoice in your peace. And blessed are all the people who grieve over you, over all your scourges, because they will rejoice in you and will see all your joy forever.

My soul blesses the Lord, the great King,

because Jerusalem will be built as a city, his house for all ages. I will be blessed if a remnant of my offspring comes to see your glory and to give thanks to the King of heaven. The gates of Jerusalem will be built with sapphire and emerald, and all your walls with precious stone. The towers of Jerusalem will be built with gold, and their battlements with pure gold.

The streets of Jerusalem will be paved with carbuncle and stone of Souphir.

And the gates of Jerusalem will sing songs of exultation, and all its houses will say, ‘Hallelujah! Blessed is the God of Israel.’ And the blessed will bless the holy name forever and ever.
