For the choirmaster. “Do Not Destroy.” Of David. A miktam. When Saul sent men, and they watched the house to put him to death.
Deliver me from my enemies, my God; set me on high above those who rise up against me.
Deliver me from workers of iniquity, and from men of bloodshed save me.
For behold, they lie in wait for my life; the fierce ones gather against me — not for my transgression, and not for my sin, Yahweh.
For no guilt they run and take their stand. Rouse yourself to meet me, and see!
And you, Yahweh God of hosts, God of Israel — awake to punish all the nations; show no favor to any who treacherously do iniquity. Selah.
They return at evening; they howl like a dog and prowl around the city.
Behold, they pour out with their mouth; swords are on their lips — “For who hears?”
But you, Yahweh, laugh at them; you mock all the nations.
O my Strength, for you I will watch; for God is my stronghold.
My God in his loyal love will come to meet me; God will let me look upon my foes.
Do not kill them, lest my people forget; make them wander by your power and bring them down, O Lord our shield.
The sin of their mouth, the word of their lips — let them be caught in their pride, and for the cursing and lying they utter.
Consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah.
And they return at evening; they howl like a dog and prowl around the city.
They roam about to eat; if they are not satisfied, they growl through the night.
But as for me, I will sing of your strength, and I will cry out in the morning of your loyal love; for you have been a stronghold for me, and a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my Strength, to you I will sing praise; for God is my stronghold, my God of loyal love.
