For the choirmaster. According to “A Dove on Distant Terebinths.” Of David. A miktam, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples me; all the day the attacker oppresses me.
My watchful foes trample all the day, for many fight against me, O Most High.
The day I am afraid, I will trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
All the day they wound my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
They gather together, they lie in hiding; they themselves watch my heels, as they have hoped for my life.
For their iniquity—will there be escape for them? In anger bring down the peoples, O God.
You have counted my wanderings; put my tears in your wineskin—are they not in your record?
Then my enemies will turn back on the day I call out; this I know, that God is for me.
In God, whose word I praise, in Yahweh, whose word I praise—
in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
Upon me, O God, are your vows; I will render thank offerings to you.
For you have delivered my life from death—have you not kept my feet from stumbling?—that I may walk before God in the light of the living.
