1Now Joshua was old, advanced in years, and Yahweh said to him, “You have grown old, advanced in years, and very much of the land still remains to be possessed.
2This is the land that remains: all the districts of the Philistines and all the Geshurites,
3from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, as far as the border of Ekron to the north, reckoned as Canaanite territory; the five lords of the Philistines — the Gazite, the Ashdodite, the Ashkelonite, the Gittite, and the Ekronite — and the Avvim.
4To the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah which belongs to the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, up to the border of the Amorites;
5and the land of the Gebalites, and all of Lebanon toward the sunrise, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon as far as Lebo-hamath.
6All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, all the Sidonians — I myself will dispossess them before the sons of Israel. Only allot it to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you.
7Now therefore divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”
8With it the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, as Moses the servant of Yahweh gave to them:
9from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Wadi Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the wadi, and all the tableland from Medeba to Dibon;
10and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the sons of Ammon;
11and Gilead, and the territory of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all of Mount Hermon, and all of Bashan as far as Salecah;
12all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei — he alone remained of the remnant of the Rephaim, but Moses struck them down and dispossessed them.
13But the sons of Israel did not dispossess the Geshurites or the Maacathites, so Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day.
14Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the fire-offerings of Yahweh, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, as he had spoken to him.
15So Moses gave to the tribe of the sons of Reuben according to their clans.
16Their territory was from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Wadi Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the wadi, and all the tableland by Medeba;
17Heshbon and all its cities that are on the tableland — Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,
18and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,
19and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill of the valley,
20and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,
21and all the cities of the tableland, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck down along with the chiefs of Midian — Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, princes of Sihon, who dwelt in the land.
22Balaam son of Beor, the diviner, the sons of Israel also killed with the sword among their slain.
23And the boundary of the sons of Reuben was the Jordan and its border. This was the inheritance of the sons of Reuben according to their clans — the cities and their villages.
24And Moses gave to the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad according to their clans.
25Their territory was Jazer and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the sons of Ammon, as far as Aroer, which faces Rabbah;
26and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;
27and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon — the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon — the Jordan and its border, as far as the edge of the Sea of Chinnereth, beyond the Jordan to the east.
28This was the inheritance of the sons of Gad according to their clans — the cities and their villages.
29And Moses gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh; it was for the half-tribe of the sons of Manasseh according to their clans.
30Their territory was from Mahanaim, all of Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the settlements of Jair that are in Bashan — sixty cities;
31And half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the sons of Machir son of Manasseh—for half of the sons of Machir according to their clans.
32These are the inheritances that Moses apportioned in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan of Jericho, eastward.
33But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance; Yahweh, the God of Israel—he is their inheritance, just as he spoke to them.
