1Therefore, holy brothers, sharers in a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus,
2who was faithful to the one who appointed him, as also Moses was in all his house.
3For this one has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, insofar as the one who built the house has greater honor than the house.
4For every house is built by someone, but the one who built all things is God.
5Now Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony to the things that would be spoken,
6but Christ as a son over his house — whose house we are, if indeed we hold fast the boldness and the boast of our hope firm until the end.
7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice,
8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9where your fathers tested me by trial, and they saw my works
10for forty years. Therefore I was angry with this generation and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; but they have not known my ways,’
11as I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’
12Watch out, brothers, that there will not be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God,
13but encourage one another every day, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
14For we have become sharers of Christ, if indeed we hold firm the beginning of our confidence until the end,
15while it is said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
16For who were they who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who came out of Egypt through Moses?
17And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
18And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, except to those who disobeyed?
19And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
