In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first of the month, the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
Son of man, raise a lament over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: You likened yourself to a young lion of the nations, but you are like the sea monster in the seas; you thrashed about in your rivers, muddying the waters with your feet and fouling their streams.
Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will spread my net over you in an assembly of many peoples, and they will haul you up in my dragnet.
I will fling you down on the land, hurl you upon the open field; I will settle upon you all the birds of the heavens and glut the beasts of all the earth with you.
I will lay your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your carcass.
I will drench the land, your outflow, with your blood, as far as the mountains, and the ravines will be filled with you.
When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you, and I will set darkness over your land, declares the Lord Yahweh.
I will trouble the heart of many peoples when I bring news of your ruin among the nations, over lands you have not known.
I will appall many peoples over you, and their kings will shudder in horror over you when I brandish my sword before their faces; they will tremble every moment, each for his own life, on the day of your fall.
For thus says the Lord Yahweh: The sword of the king of Babylon will come upon you.
By the swords of warriors I will make your horde fall — all of them the most ruthless of the nations; they will devastate the pride of Egypt, and all its horde will be destroyed.
I will destroy all its cattle from beside the abundant waters; no human foot will muddy them again, and no hooves of cattle will muddy them.
Then I will let their waters settle and make their rivers flow like oil, declares the Lord Yahweh.
When I make the land of Egypt a desolation — a land stripped of its fullness — when I strike down all who dwell in it, then they will know that I am Yahweh.
This is a lament, and they will chant it; the daughters of the nations will chant it. Over Egypt and over all its horde they will chant it, declares the Lord Yahweh.
In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth of the month, the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
Son of man, wail over the horde of Egypt, and send it down — it and the daughters of majestic nations — to the world below, with those who go down to the Pit.
Whom do you surpass in beauty? Go down and be laid to rest with the uncircumcised!
They will fall in the midst of those slain by the sword. The sword is appointed; drag her off, and all her hordes.
The mightiest of warriors will speak to him from the midst of Sheol, along with his helpers: they have gone down, they lie still, the uncircumcised, slain by the sword.
There is Assyria and all its assembly, its graves all around it, all of them slain, fallen by the sword.
whose graves are set in the deepest parts of the Pit, and its assembly is all around its grave — all of them slain, fallen by the sword, they who once spread terror in the land of the living.
There is Elam and all its horde around its grave — all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised to the world below, who spread their terror in the land of the living; now they bear their disgrace with those who go down to the Pit.
Among the slain they have made a bed for her, with all her horde, their graves all around him — all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because their terror was spread in the land of the living; now they bear their disgrace with those who go down to the Pit. She is placed among the slain.
There are Meshech and Tubal and all their horde, its graves all around him — all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, because they inflicted their terror in the land of the living.
They do not lie with the fallen warriors of ancient times, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were placed under their heads and whose iniquities were upon their bones — for the terror of these warriors had been in the land of the living.
But you, in the midst of the uncircumcised you will be broken, and you will lie with those slain by the sword.
There is Edom, its kings and all its princes, who despite their might were laid with those slain by the sword; they lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the Pit.
There are the princes of the north, all of them, and every Sidonian, who went down with the slain; despite the terror they caused by their might, they are ashamed, and they lie uncircumcised with those slain by the sword and bear their disgrace with those who go down to the Pit.
Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all his multitude—those slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his army, declares the Lord Yahweh.
For I set his terror in the land of the living, and he will be laid down in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword—Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord Yahweh.
